CLEAN UP NICE

For those filthy rich who bathe in a gold bathtub and shit on swarovski-studded toilet nothing less then a diamond-studded faucet would do to take their bathroom obsession to another high. Architect Nilo Gioacchini’s Oz collection faucet has been tweaked to the max by Master of goldsmith’s art Professor Alberto Cotogno, winner of the International jewel Oscar. The luxurious faucet is completely made in gold and is mounted with 282 natural diamonds for a total carat weight of 10.24. No word on price but then this is meant for those who spend without counts.

OUT OF THIS WORLD

If you haven’t reserved your seat on Virgin Galactic yet, better stop dawdling―there are already 200 people in line ahead of you. Virgin CEO Richard Branson recently visited New York to unveil a scale model of his extraordinary two-stage space vehicle, designed by aeronautical visionary Burt Rutan. “2008 really will be the Year of the Spaceship,” Branson said, announcing that test flights of the carrier aircraft, WhiteKnightTwo, will begin this summer. SpaceShipTwo, with six passengers aboard, will hitch a ride to the stratosphere suspended beneath WhiteKnight’s massive wing. The spaceship then drops free and lights a rocket for an exhilarating ride into space. The experience will be “the most fabulous thing that you could imagine,” says Mike Melvill, and he should know―as pilot of SpaceShipOne, he was the world’s first commercial astronaut. Tickets, which can be purchased online, start at $200,000. Passenger flights could start as soon as 2009. (www.virgingalactic.com)

The car, which was more than one year in the making, will go on display until the weekend after which it will be smashed up with hammers and served to party guests. Based on the F2008, the $25,000 chocolate Ferrari has a red edible coating and guest of the Scuderia Ferrari Club Napoli will be given bits of the car to take home after the bash.

CRACK FOR THE WRIST

Zenith is rolling out their new El Primero Zero-G Multi-Dimensional Tourbillon at Baselworld 2008 in April. The luxorious all-black Zero-G is coated in a special PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) solution, which makes the timepiece impervious to the powers of gravity. The watch could theoretically work for astronauts who are walking the surface of the moon or repairing a space station. Somehow, we doubt NASA will be willing to shell out the $500,000 for this watch.

CHECK THE TIME

While many people claim Paris and New York to be their favorite cities, the real test of such affection may be the purchase of one of Piaget’s special editions of its Tourbillon Relatif, part of the new Limelight Paris-New York collection. The Tourbillon Relatif houses Piaget’s most daring and complicated watch movement—a flying tourbillon with a regulating organ that is suspended above the dial and revolves with the minute hand once an hour around the center. But in this limited edition of just three watches (approximately $400,000) for each city, the mechanics are overshadowed by the decoration. Fields of blue-black Grand Feu enamel contrast with masterful engravings of city streets and monuments on the Paris version and New York’s distinctive skyline on its counterpart. The timepieces convey the charm and individuality of each city on a small-scale. (800.359.4538, www.piaget.com)

BUCKLE UP

Take a look at the solid gold, hi-precision mechanical belt buckles manufactured by men’s watches and accessories designer Roland Iten. Roland has created a new niche in the luxury goods industry called mechanical luxury. His solid gold, hi-precision mechanical belt buckles, made in Switzerland, with the same manufacturing processes as employed by the Geneva watch-making industry, take from 9-18 months to produce and retail from $25,000 for the solid gold versions and from $15,000 for the steel and gold version. The full collection will be launched in Geneva at the SIHH watch fair in April 2008. $25,000 isn’t a lot if you’re buying, say, a car or a boat. However, $25,000is a lot for a belt buckle.

B.I.G., THEY FINALLY MADE A 700 BENZ !

At the Frankfurt Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz has taken the wraps off of the F700 featuring their DiesOtto engine. Like the engine recently demonstrated by General Motors, this one is a combination HCCI/spark ignition design. However, Mercedes has decided to add turbo-charging to the mix to provide a a 1.8L four cylinder that yields performance in this large sedan that's comparable to the 3.5L V-6 in the current S-Class with average fuel economy of 44.3 mpg. The carbon dioxide emissions of the F700 are only 127 g/km which would put it below the proposed EU limit of 130 g/km. Trying to push 700's they aint made them yet, but we're a little closer.

AHHH...NOW THATS GOOD WATER

I’d understand if someone from a sub-Saharan desert state paid big bucks for a bottle of water, but why would anyone pay that kinda money to have a sip of water in Tokyo! Apparently Bling Water is all the rage in the elite circles these days and Osaka-based super-glam bottled water brand Fillico Beverly Hills just upped the ante for other water brands with their $100-a-bottle water. Featuring a frosted glass bottle decorated with Swarovski crystals and etched with gold paint, the bottle retails for double the price if you decide to opt for a silver or gold crown! The water comes from a natural spring in Kobe and the bottle sells at the exclusive Ritz Carlton in Tokyo. For that kinda price you’d think the water will have properties that make you immortal or lets you stay young forever but it just does what regular tap water does-quench thirst.

KEEP EM FRESH!

Cigar connoisseurs know very well the value of a humidor as there is no other perfect place to store your cigars and they just want it to be with them all the time. Carrying a cigar humidor is not a problem for the Rolls Royce owners. The Rolls Royce humidor is offered on both the Phantom and the Phantom Drophead Coupe. It sits aptly in the glove compartment door of the two luxury roadsters and come out when pushed. Offering space for three cigars, the humidor is lined with wood to preserve the humidity of the cigars. Sadly, many of us can just sit back and admire the thing as this Rolls Royce humidor might be within the budget but not the Rolls Royce Phantom.

THIS IS WHAT YOU CALL BEING TWO-FACED

Watch collectors are likely to be surprised, not so much by the novel two-dial look of Max Busser’s second creation, the Horological Machine #2, but by the many inventive features he has packed into its rectangular case. Busser, a small-production entrepreneur based in Geneva, has once again tapped the services of some of the most respected independent watchmakers in Switzerland, including Jean-Marc Wiederrecht, who designed a novel and efficient jumping hour/retrograde minutes display for the HM2. The case alone is made of more than 100 separate components that fit together as modules, a construction reminiscent of the Meccano erector sets Busser says he enjoyed as a child. Collectors who manage to get their hands on one of the limited-edition 125 pieces (at $62,000) will likely relish their playtime with the watch.

COOKIES AND CREME FOR THE WRIST

Legendary diamond house De Beers has combined diamonds and precision Swiss timekeeping in its Talisman Suntime Riviere, a one-of-a-kind watch unveiled in its New York store last month. Designed to appear like a sundial, the unconventional timepiece is made with 357 black and white baguette diamonds and appointed with one rough black diamond―a signature of the De Beers jewelry collection―at the center of the dial. The Swiss automatic movement with a 42-hour power reserve reveals the time with two diamonds denoting the hour and minute hands within a narrow circle on the face. It took a craftsman more than 600 hours to create the $800,000 timepiece.

BACK TO THE FUTURE

The Morgan AeroMax coupe is now slated for a limited run of 100 units. Blessed with a BMW-sourced 4.4-liter V-8 powertrain and a low curb weight—thanks in part to its wooden frame—it is one of the quickest cars on the road. PRICE 200K
